Couples Tribute: Maggy & Marcus
When Marcus proposed to Maggy they made a large list of wedding venues that they found to be interesting. These two soon-to-be architects looked at everything from old houses to lofts to arboretums to Celebrate Snug Harbor. After seeing three wedding venues in person it was on a cold December day that they stood in the Chinese Scholar Garden looked at each other and said, “I think we found it”. They set their wedding date for May 26th, 2017.
Maggy and Marcus picked Snug Harbor because they both love nature, and wanted to incorporate both of their cultures in small ways. Maggy is also an artist and a lover of all things nature and watercolor. To them Celebrate Snug Harbor felt like it a hidden gem, without a worry of the big NYC crowds. They truly felt like everything at Snug Harbor was the perfect backdrop for their wedding day.
Maggy was a stunning Bride in a Sottero and Midgley dress from RK Bridal while her bridesmaids all wore different shades of blue gowns from Amsale and Lulu’s.
Marcus wore a navy suit from Alton Lane while his groomsmen wore dark gray suits from The Black Tux.
Their beautiful ceremony took place in the Tuscan Garden followed by cocktail hour in the Chinese scholar’s garden.
Maggy wanted to incorporate a lot of artsy things with DIY’s elements. They went with mostly greens, pastels colors and gold accents. With doing this they created a feel throughout their entire day as if you were in an English Artist’s garden.
“The big project for both of us was building our arch from scratch which the florist decorated the day of, Marcus is pretty good with woodwork so it was great to infuse both of our talents in our wedding. Having these projects over the span of our long 22-month long engagement was actually a ton of fun.”
Their florist Wild Floral Designs did all the beautiful centerpieces, the large sweet heart table garland, and all other garlands, the arch the aisle decor. All the personal flowers like bouquets, boutonnieres, corsages, flowers for Maggy’s hair, and even a dog wreath for our husky ring bearer.
Maggy herself designed their invitations, programs, seating chart, menus and the table numbers. She hand-painted their escort cards, painted the bar signs that featured their signature drinks, did the calligraphy wherever needed, painted the welcome sign and direction signs, made the watercolor paper flower backdrop (with help from friends and Marcus) Maggy even hand made her veil from scratch and painted it with acrylic and gold leaf instead of using lace.
Maggy and Marcus had a beautiful wedding reception in the tented pavilion. Their guests enjoyed watching them share their first dance to “Love is here to stay” by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.
At Celebrate Snug Harbor and we are so lucky to have wonderful couples like Maggy and Marcus to work it. Their guests truly enjoyed their wedding day and the great music played by Rockin it Djs.
Congratulations to Maggy and Marcus, and a huge thanks to Le Image Inc. for sharing these gorgeous photos with us.
Advice from our Bride & Groom – “During the last few days we were both so stressed that we went to a spa for a few hours, it was great to forget about everything for a little while and just enjoy the fact that we were getting married in a few days.”
